An evening with Raymond Chan - 15 years as Unit Trust Consultant

Mon 25 Aug 08, I’ve been invited by the company to attend a session by our senior unit trust consultant Mr Raymond Chan. It is good to listen to those that are long in any business that you venture in. We can learn many things from them. They said there is no short-cuts in any thing. But if you can listen to those that have experience before you, or read their book or books about them, you can learn many lessons and avoid many mistakes that they have made along the way. It is also a short-cut in a good manner to learn from others. Thre are many short-cuts that are bad.

Among the lessons learned:

  1. Normal people don’t attend training
  2. The differences between managing people and leading people
  3. Read books about Leee Iococca, John C. Maxwell to learn about leadership
  4. Too much of ego will bring you and your agency down
  5. Rules of 80:20 applies to your agency. 100% of people that join you, only 20% are active. So what to do… Come to our FREE seminar this Saturday 30-Aug-08 10 am at Public Mutual Cheras. Click here to register www.myUnittrust.com/seminar
  6. Why people join unit trust industry. FREEDOM. You need to elaborate what FREEDOM means to them

Summary of Brainstorming just before Permatang Pauh Election

  1. GAMs ranking - this will give us energy to push or break our own limit.
  2. Warren Buffet strategies based on BizWeek last Saturday - short term vs long term. Shot term market is very irrational and sentiment. For long term, we nust be very objective. Value vs price. Look for the values. He also advised that for people at large that do not have time, knowledge & has no interest- don’t become stock trader. They will be better off to buy unit trust funds and dollar cost average into it over their working life.
  3. Market Outlook - we make use an article by Random Thoughts of TheEdge weekly newspaper. Handouts as given during the meeting. In summary: Malaysia’s inflation rises to 8.5% for July. Malaysia manufacturing sales increase by 17.8%. US index signals down. Petrol down as global oil price drops. To win back the rakyat hearts.
  4. A-Star program start today just after the brainstorming

A morning with Elly

My downline Hazah went to Sales Workshop by Elly at Public Mutual Cheras. Very energetic and it is a BIG lose if you didn’t attend. In summary, we a unit trust consultant must have high energy and extra-ordinary. A good person is to have knowledge and attitude. But the most part is attitude 85%. Knowledge is only 15%.

It reminds me the training that I’ve attended, Master Communicator by Dr Lawrence Ng last year. From my point of view, in general, many successful unit trust consultants have been influenced by Lawrence method. Our first GAM and new GAM Azizah and Jaslinah were also being trained by Lawrence.
