  • US market–it seems recovering but it hasn’t cross the line yet.

  • KLCI- It goes up, because of year end –window dressing. Hopefully it will close 900 points, ada chance tu.  You must differenciate between economy outlook and stock market. Normally, the stock market is ahead of economy by 6 months.  Normally, stock market recovery is between 12 months to 18 months.  Now, 12 months have passed.  So, next??
  • Hang Seng market– Is also going uptrend…, dah slowly going out from bearish mood.

“The Government has approved a RM70mil grant to retrain 10,000 unemployed graduates, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam” extracted from http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/19/nation/2836970&sec=nation today.

Wow begitu banyak unemployed graduates sekarang. And the govt has to spend RM70 mill. Good for them temporarily but in the long run, we don’t know. Whether it will create sikap tak apa when the young grad tak dapat kerja, they will say “..the govt will help them” .

So if you are one of the 10,000 tu, may I suggest you to build your own business. We are now living in the information age, the new economy, the knowledge economy. Job security is dead. Don’t believe or be trapped by the phrase ” … study hard, get a good, safe and secure job, work hard and the govt or the company will take care of you..” I was like this before. And hope the new generation will change.

There are plenty of opportunity out here in our soil, MALAYSIA gemilang. If you want to do business now, it doesn’t take a lot of money compared to the time of our parents. Build your own business, you will learn a lot to improve your:

• communication skills – presentation skills
• sales & marketing skills
• financial plan

  • US market – USD 700b or USD 1 trill fiscal stimulus – govt have to balance out the economy. Thus the govt all around the world are spending a lot of money to mitigate the slowing economy.
  • For you to understand the policies to control the economy. 1. Fiscal stimulus or policy that can be used by the government (there are two ways: increase/decrease tax and govt spending). 2. Monetary policy that can be used by Federal Reserve or Bank Negara (there are two ways: increase/decrease interest rate and amount of money in the market)
  • Why US is under recession but their currency goes up. Because of supply and demand. Somebody is buying
  • KLCI – investors did not realise that market was good from 2001 till Jan 2008. 7 years of good time. But when they feel the downtrend of less than a year between Jan to Dec 2008, they forget. So again you have got to think long term. Imagine if the market goes up again 1500 from current 853 points. Tak kisah lah if it takes 3 years. It goes up.
  • Hang Seng market – going uptrend. So for China funds yang you all ada, you don’t need to switch out for now.

• PIBF dividend 1c/unit and PFEDF 0.35c/unit
• Asset Allocation of fund

2. Industry Updates:

• Malaysia OPR (Overnight Policy Rate) reduce to 3.25% and thus BLR (Base Lending Rate) also reduced from 6.75% to 6.5%
• Currently banks has yet to reduce FD rates. If FD rates reduced, then UT become more attractive
• New funds: Prudential Emerging Market Rate and OSK Income AlphaFund – both are fixed income funds

• US 1-year trend – consolidation, 5-year trend seems like it will be tougher for DJ to climb back to 10,000 points
• HK Hang Seng 1-year trend -chart shows the trend towards apex. A good sign.

8. Cold Calling challenges: many new agents feel uncomfortable to do cold calling. Is there any other ways. For new agents, yes we have to build our clients list. There are many ways doing that besides cold calling:
