Do you know when was the industrial age starts. Perhaps in 1900 when Ford started his factory producing car for everybody. Sounds familiar right. It is like “Now everyone can fly” from AirAsia. I don’t know who copy whom. But it works.

Next, when is the Information Age starts. I believe when IBM started building the first computer. At that time, the computer size is as big as your living hall in the house.

What is the difference between the two ages:

1. It takes a lot of money to build factory, businesses and the effort to put is huge in the industrial age for you to make money
2. In the information age, people start their business from a dormitory or from the bedroom. The capital to start is minimal that it can be less than RM300. And may be a one man show business. Dell has proven this from a bedroom to a multibilion dollar company.

We are now have moved from industrial age to information age. You must aware about it. Then you can take action on it. Else, you will still wandering and thinking like in industrial age.

The mindset is different now if you want to succeed in the information age.

But are our education evolves according to this trend? Not only in our country but all over the world, our education system is still based on industrial age mentality. Therefore you can see many people who have degress, masters still cannot find a job or cannot start their own business.

The information age move very fast. If you don’t do anything, you will be lacking behind. Far behind. Why almost all government cannot cope with the changes of the information age and map it to their education system. Because it changing every seconds. From DELL, yahoo, google, facebook many more.

But student in university is still studying C programming and sometime use Pascal.

When you know that the world is changing, we must also change. So attend short courses, seminar and read new books.

If you want to do a business, you must develop your business skills. You must have a business mindset.

I hear people say they want to do a business. Sometime they don’t know what they are talking about. They don’t know how much money is required, how much effort need to put in. They jump in and try to swim. In the middle of the pool, they think they cannot cross to the other side, they turn back.

In order for you to become a business owner, you don’t only change your outer look. More importantly you must change your thinking. Business owner mindset is different. A worker will do their job and want their pay. What’s in it for me they said. They will be waiting for 5:00 o’clock so that they can go back.

But a business owner must serve people. The more they serve people the more income they will get. Sometime they work for free in the beginning. Depending on the type of business, some take 3 years and some may take few months only to break even. 

These few months or the few years that many people tried and failed. The worst case is, because they see this happening to their friend, they don’t even want to try. If you don’t try, you are 100% failed.

I’ve been involved in a few businesses before I join the financial services industry. For me, I found out, it is faster, simpler and more lucrative in this business.

You don’t have to keep inventory and staffs. You don’t need to have your office to be rented. You don’t pay the utilities. You don’t need to pay security guard to look after your office. You don’t even need to pay your business partners.

But your business is growing in quantum without office outlet. This is the invisible business. And it is BIG. So start thinking like a business owner.

Many unit trust consultants now stay at home or do other businesses or even go back and find a 9-to-5 job. They have forgotten why they are in the business at the first place.

So, if you don’t have any appointment for the day. What you can do:

1. You just go to Public Mutual office and chit-chat with the agents that you think will motivate you. Then start calling your exisiting clients. Try make an appointment for today, NOW, afternoon or evening. Paling lambat ask for tomorrow appointment. Then you will feel energetic again.
2. You sit or sleep at your house. It will increase your weight and your motivation is down. So move out from your house
3. Read book. NO. Only read book outside office hour or after you have close sales that meet your daily quota.
4. Write blog. OK la. But don’t take too much of your time. 5 mins to write a blog.
5. Have breakfast or lunch or teh tarik with your clients

So, too many things can be done. You must have activities. Focus and determine.

I’ve wrote somewhere before, that to succeed on anything you do, you must have three things:

1. Intention
2. Decision
3. Determination

Yesterday, early in the morning. I don’t have any appointment. I met Jamaiyah and Nizam at Public Mutual Bangsar. I told them, how can I explain to my clients if their investment is now ”rugi”. Nizam told me you must read surah Al-Asr. What a good advise. Thinking out of the box.

The more I talk to them, the more energy I get. After that, I call my clients and manage to secure appointment after Zuhr prayer. I closed 5 persons within 3 hours. Alhamdulillah.

So take action, chit-chat with positive-minded people. 

I listen to a CD by Robert Kiyosaki while driving to Bangsar. I love it. He talks about the new economy vs old economy.

We have been taught from our kindergarden that “Son … go to school, get good grade, get safe and secure job, buy big house … ” Are you one of them.

Then you follow the same advise but unfortunately, when you graduate, you cannot get the work that you want. Even if you have got the work, fast forward 14 to 15 years later – the company is downsizing, people get layoff, retrenched.

Do you notice that the job security is no longer exist. What exist is only the illusion of job security. Then, why is that people still cling to job security.

So what is the demand for the new economy. Build businesses. So how do you build your business when you know that 90% of small businesses failed during their first year of operating. Thus, you must start small but think big. Start doing business, then you will learn the business skills. Attend seminar, read books and listen to CDs. Hang around with people that are like-minded and business-minded.

I’ve asked opinion from our consultants on the new name for myUnitTrust.com consultants. Few names selected and we finally agreed to CALIPH Consultants. 

The reasons are:

• we want it to be short, meaningful and marketable to both unit trust consultants, investors and the public
• myUnitTrust.com blog has become popular for agents, consultants, would-be agents, MLMers, small business owner and those who would like to start their own business and quit their 9-to-5 job. But for attracting the new clients, the results is not significant.
• name that reflects Islamic values as we promote only Islamic Unit Trust Funds
• name that voted by our public mutual agents name, not syok sendiri if it is coming from my opinion alone
• branding the CALIPH agency nationwide

  

Congratulations to all Caliph Consultants….

I am also human like all of you. Sometimes you were down, sad and some other time you are happy. So am I.

When I am sad, I try to pretend that I am happy by making myself smile, smile again and smile again. When I smile, I attract other people to smile.

Today I met Kamarul, Bakhtiar, Jeenat, Azhari, Asma, Zaidah, Zaher, Baharul, Saidi, Sulaiman, Norlida, Nadia, Sabariah, Junaidah, Azizah and Samsol. Can you count it how many? 16 people up to 3 o’clock. 13 existing clients and 3 prospects (referral). What an amazing achievement for only a SMILE even though I am very sad early in the morning.

So let go out from your office and your house. See your clients and prospect with SMILE.

Another thing is that today I wear a white shirt, I feel comfortable with the shirt. I like white very much. My car is white, my sandals is white even my pen is also white. So it also boost my confident. May be every day I shall wear white shirt to increase my confidence.

What is selling made easy and how it can be done:

1. I am at one place from morning to afternoon. Breakfast together, lunch together, solat together with my clients
2. Whenever they say hello to their friends, you also say hello and exchange the card
3. Referral is one of the best way to get new clients vs cold calling
4. Share your values to your clients. They already sick with unit trust consultants that say “buy now, buy now, buy now”. Of course they know already this is the time to buy. I shared with them on how to tackle their bosses. Lesson learned from DISC seminar and Lawrence seminar. Their mouth wide open.

That’s it. Selling made easy.

Now, I noticed that I am in love with writing blogs, read other people blogs, books. I would try to finish seeing my clients by 3pm and start accessing the internet at the coffee house (not Starbucks). Apa lagi. Tulis blog.

What the experts like Irfan Khairi, Azizi Ali and Gobala Krishnan said – if you love the job, you could do it even people don’t pay you. You would do it for FREE.

I love to write the blog, I love helping my friends have additional RM1 million in their EPF and I love to recruit new unit trust agent. Combine those skills, create synergy and the WOW factor.  

Can you do it, if you are still in corporate life, makan gaji, small business and yang sama waktu dengannya. Cannot. So why don’t you make a move. Do what you love. love what you do.
