Lunch with Azah at Awan Besar after our Seminar Unit Trust 2009 at Publilc Mutual Cheras. If you been there during lunch hour you will see apa yang saya maksudkan.

Few years ago, Mc Donald outlet occupied the place where A Hassan is now. But McD pull out. Not many customers. A Hassan came in, and the restaurant attracts many people to take lunch there. Orang beratur nak makan and willingly pay for the food even the food price is considered above average.

Why is that the global brand failed but the no brand succeed? If you were like many people, you will say the location of McD was no good. May be it is not good for Mc D but not for other business.

A Hassan don’t think like that. They come with not so creative idea that we cannot think of. Very simple but difference from restaurants within that are. I believe their success factors are:

1. Restoran nasi ayam kampung. They are different from exisiting restaurants yang ada kat situ. Therefore, we got to be different from other unit trust consultants.
2. Their magnet is ayam kampung. Ayam kampung is always becoming a magnet for KL dwellers. People come for ayam kampung, end-up eat more than ayam kampung. So they have the magnet – unit trust consultants must also create your magnet. Especially for man. You know woman people naturally attracted to them.
3. The place is comfortable, style. People now look for a good place to eat. So do people look for a good unit trust consultant do invest their money.

Then why is McD fails? I think you can find the answers.

My wife told me already long time ago. I just ignore it.  Because I am a fanatic user of Microsoft Outlook may be due to:

1. Contacts data from my hp is easily synchro to my Outlook
2. Birthday date and all personal data can be stored

Today I transferred all contacts detail from Outlook to Gmail. Surprise to me… it is easier than I thought. All data are intact.

Why I love Gmail now:

1. When you type your recipient name in TO cell… The email name will automatically filled-up. No more time wasted looking for their email address. You just click from the auto-fill function
2. My notebook now is using Intel Atom (it is not as fast as Core Duo), so if I continue using Outlook, all data is donwloaded into my harddisk. It will slower my notebook. Through gmail, all data are online. You can view it from gmail server. No need to donwload
3. Google has many more application like Google docs, google calendar, google map. I think that is the way to go in the future. Microsoft has to start re-think of their business model because google is a threat to them. You don’t need Office in the future because all is FREE using Google Docs.
4. I can read my corporate email such as myunittrust.com or caliph.my via gmail. You too can read your corporate mail from google with very little setting required. No more worry about Outlook.

Still if I want to synchro my hp contact, I need to use Outlook. If you know how to synchro using gmail, let me know.

Friday is always a good day. FREE.. In my mind I have many things to do on my blogs, my clients report, unit trust agents training. But I don’t know which one to start first. Have you experience that.

What are my plan:

1. Launch caliph.my, a blog for my clients and for our agents to write their own blog under the same caliph.my.
2. Prepare training material for “How to write blog”
3. Organise clients and agents database
4. Check client yang dah untung – boleh jual dulu.

So kalau kita tak tahu nak buat apa. Start write it down. Then baru la boleh start kat mana.

I can’t remember exactly a story of a man who ask for the advice from a pious man why is that his business not doing so well. The pious man then says SMILE. After that, he SMILEs, SMILEs and SMILEs. His business become better and better. Flourishing…

With SMILE also you will get pahala.  SMILE is also sedeqah. With sedeqah Allah gives you provision or sustenance or rezeki. You see, with one SMILE can attract many benefits to you and to those around you.

Try make your face SOUR. The prospect won’t come to you. Your wife also don’t like it. Your kid also cabut dari you. Your agents pun belah…

Another SMILE that I learned during breakfast with my lover this morning. Cannot tahan, mesti nak share with you all:

• S – serve it forward. It means deliver XO service to your clients and unit trust agents
• M – making a memorable difference. Make a difference in all you do.
• I – involve your team. Exceed our unit trust agents expectation
• L - look for opportunities. take risk, be bold and creative at opportunities
• E – encourage your team. Keep them motivated

Every morning, you wake up. Of course you must recite a doa, take wudhu and pray two rakaat of solah. This is because syaitan ikat kita dengan tiga ikatan semasa kita tidur. So untuk lepaskan ikatan tu kita kena buat 3 perkara di atas. Else kita akan rasa malas.

You must start your day with positive mindset. Never say you can’t, never kutuk people, never blame someone, never talk about negative things.

If you say you can’t do it, you can’t. Allah adalah mengikut sangkaan kita. Our words are our pray. So be careful of what you say.

What I learned from many courses I attended, they said about affirmation or self-talk – where you talk to yourself like:

• I am a successful unit trust consultant
• I am a fantastic leader
• My clients love me  because I gave them XO service
• My unit trust agents love me because I care for them
• I closed RM30,000 today

Start doing the self-talk every day before you start your work.

Do you ever think what you have done for your business or your job again and again in the same cycle everyday. Where do you think we go after that.

Have we prepare for the day when people cry or have to cry because we left this world. And how long do you think they will feel sad, sorrow because we are no longer in this world. I think the most is one week.

Do you remember when is the last time you visited your friend kubur? Or you never visited them. That is what will happen to you and me. Even the relative also, berapa kali yang mereka pergi ke kubur kita atau ingatkan kita.

When we die, life for our family and friends goes on. They go to work as normal. So, we are alone in the grave. Have you think what is inside the grave. Have you prepared.

Take 10% of your day in a month to go out from thislife cycle and think about yourself, think about where we will go and think about other people also how they will go there.

The real life is the after we die as we don’t have to work, we don’t have to go to toilet. We just received what we have done in this short world.

So, I am off for 3 days in Shah Alam.

Very early 7 in the morning, I drive to Grand Season Hotel for the Seminar on Impacting Leadership Communication organized by FMUTM (Federation of Malaysian Unit Trust Managers).

The speaker is Alice George – a PR Consultant from AGC Communication. At 9am the Grand Ballroom is not yet full. 10am baru penuh sikit.

Imagine, it was difficult when we want to book for the seminar for our group consultants as it is said its FULL. Bila datang, tak penuh dan orang datang lambat. Lagi best, ramai yang balik sebelum seminar tamat.

What comes to my mind is that I think because the seminar is FREE, people just register and don’t come or they can come late and cabut awal. But they deprive other people to come.

Nevertheless, what I learned from the seminar is as follows:

Bright faces, handsome and beautiful were at the AAN and NSC in Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. They are all achievers. Public Mutual celebrated them.

I take this opportunity to chit-chat with many of them and from time-to-time I will share it with you. How the successful do this unit trust business that we can learn, copy and multiply.

I met Kahar and her wife from JB. Chit-chat with them. They are one of the top AM in JB.

AI: Hi Kahar, remember me. We attend a training together?

Kahar:  Ingat. Tahniah … jadi Top Rekruter.

AI: Terima kasih. This is your wife.

Kahar: Yes. Emm.. Fauziah..We  do unit trust full time together.

AI: So when are you becoming GAM.

Kahar: Insyaallah. This month.

AI: Good. Before you join unit trust, you kat mana.

Kahar: I dulu Polis and Fauziah is a lawyer..

AI: What a different backgorund.

Fauziah: Kita tak pernah involve in marketing or sales. We just do it.

AI: Wow.. dahsyatnya. Your sales and your group sales pun power jugak kan. How do you do your agency training?

Kahar: Kita buat weekly and kita buat sendiri.

AI: Waa.. great… (diringkaskan cerita). Thanks Kahar. See you tomorrow for the dinner.

Lessons learned:

1. People who succesfully do unit trust business come from wide arrrays of background
2. Even without knowledge and skills of sales & marketing of unit trust, many people succeed. Why? because they just do it. Wake up and do it.
3. Many of unit trust consultants are husband and wife partner. When they succeed, they share together. Don’t forget your spouse.
4. Product knowledge is secondary. The behaviour is of most important. Like Nazri have said, the WHY is more important than the HOW. The DESIRE to succeed will find you the HOW. Just do it.
